Iraqi Shia cleric orders removal of anti-Saudi posters in his country

Iraq’s influential Shia leader, Muqtada Al-Sadr, has ordered his followers to remove all anti-Saudi posters in the streets of the country, media sources reported on Friday. The order was issued after Al Sadr had concluded a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia during which he met with the Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman. This was his first visit since 2006. After the Saudi authorities had executed the Saudi Shia cleric, Nimr Al-Nimr, over terrorism charges in January 2016, Iraq’s Shia posted billboards and graffiti in public spaces criticising Saudi Arabia and its rulers. Israel’s Haifa Chemicals says it is closing business

Haifa Chemicals said on Wednesday it was closing shop and letting go of its 800 employees after failing to find a reasonable alternative to a large ammonia tank it needs to function which was ordered to be shut down earlier this year. An Israeli court in February ordered the company to shut down the country’s largest ammonia tank, which has been a point of contention for years, with residents and environmental groups warning it is a major health hazard. “Haifa Chemicals management decided to close the company and is forced to fire all its employees,” it said in a statement. Israel stop Palestinian protest against illegal watchtower

Israeli occupation forces yesterday suppressed a sit-in organised by Palestinians in the south of Hebron in the occupied West Bank in order to protest Israel’s construction of an army watchtower near the village of Dura. Last week, reports emerged that Israeli forces had declared the Kharsa Triangle – an area of land south of Dura village – a closed military zone, and had forbidden Palestinians from entering the area.
